Volunteers
Family Hospice recruits and trains adults to become Volunteers. Volunteers are the backbone of hospice, in the beginning, hospices were started by unpaid volunteers helping patients and families in meeting their special needs. Volunteers come from all walks of life and have different skills and abilities that enhance the delivery of excellence in care.
Patient Volunteers
Patient volunteers spend their time being with patients. They may read to patients, document the patient’s life story, putting together a memory book of photos and stories or just sitting quietly with the patient. Volunteers who are licensed as nurses, certified nursing assistance or therapist may practice within the scope of their license in providing care after they complete an orientation program.
Administrative Volunteers
Administrative Volunteers are helpful in assisting with non-patient activities. This includes making phone calls to check in on patients weekly, file important reports, input data, assist with preparing educational and marketing material and being available to answer phones.
Bereavement Volunteers
Bereavement Volunteers assist the Pastoral Care department by sending letters, making follow up phone calls to people who just need to talk. Training for Bereavement Volunteers must be completed before becoming a Bereavement Volunteer.
Event Volunteers-Tree of Memories, Linus Blankets, Memorial services are all events we have every year that need volunteers to help.
Heartlinks Volunteers.
Heartlinks Volunteers are as unique as this special program. Throughout the year, Diana Cuddeback needs help in special projects for families enrolled in Heartlinks. (Click her to find out more about Heartlinks. )
