Family Hospice Receives Deficiency-Free Hospice Provider Designation

Belleville, Ill., Oct. 26, 2021 – Family Hospice, a not-for-profit organization based in Belleville, has just received a deficiency-free survey from the Illinois Department of Public Health. This Medicare survey is a required inspection to determine if the programming is in compliance with the rules and regulations governing Hospice Providers nationally. The process is comprehensive and thorough, and a “deficiency-free” designation distinguishes Family Hospice as a premier hospice care provider in Illinois.

Family Hospice has provided top-quality, end of life care services since becoming certified in 1991. As a not-for-profit organization governed by a board of community volunteers, their main goal is to offer viable programs with an excellent level of care. Individuals and families seeking hospice care for their loved ones do have a choice, and Family Hospice has been serving families in the Metro-east area for decades. Family Hospice offers care and support to patients and families facing the final stages of a life-limiting illness, regardless of their ability to pay.

Matt Brauss, executive director, is excited about the deficiency-free designation. “I saw the potential for Family Hospice when I began working here 9 years ago. The Board of Directors supported the employees and the employees supported the patients and families in their care,” said Brass. He went on to say, “Emphasis is always about putting patients first, knowing the rest would take care of itself. Every question, every plan, and every issue had to answer the question, ‘How does it affect our patient?’”

The survey is conducted every three years and accompanies other high scores by Medicare reviews that are submitted by families who receive services through Family Hospice. By placing an emphasis on personalized, professional and compassionate care, Family Hospice has touched the lives of over 5,000 patients and their families since opening their doors.
